10 Things to Check Before you Submit your Scientific Article for Publication

Before you submit your article for publication, you want to make sure that it is as perfect as it can be. For that, it’s a good idea to double check a few things:

  1. The progression and sequence of ideas in each section should be logical.
  2. There must be a strong logical relationship between the introduction and the discussion.
  3. The transitions between paragraphs should be logical and smooth.
  4. Each paragraph should be focused on a specific point and a principal sentence and in each paragraph the secondary sentences should support the principal one.
  5. The terminology used should be consistent and correct.
  6. The references should be cited correctly in the text and the reference list should be complete and correct.
  7. The tables and figures should be numbered correctly.
  8. The page breaks shouldn’t split the tables or figures.
  9. The paper should be free of spelling, grammatical and typographical errors.
  10. The authors’ names should be spelled correctly.

Finally, change passive constructions to active and shorten longer phrases, remove redundant and superfluous phrases or ideas and colloquial language, read the paper out loud, modify quirky sentences and ask a colleague to review your paper one last time!
